10 Worst Fates Suffered By Heroes In Horror Movies

5. Tori Brayer - Brightburn

Brightburn answers that nightmare question Bruce Wayne had in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, 'What if Superman's evil?'

More precisely, this film takes a look at an evil Superboy of sorts, whose spaceship he crash-landed to Earth in starts giving him sinister signals as he enters the terrible teens. The result is a monstrous rampage through the hapless Kansas town of Brightburn.

The boy's adoptive mother Tori ultimately makes a stab at putting an end to her son's madness. Much like Superman's susceptible to kryptonite, the young lad here can be cut by the material his ship's hull is made out of. Of course, his mother's attempt at taking him out with it is predictably doomed. Hoisted into the sky, we watch poor Tori beg for her life before her son drops her, leaving her to crash back down to Earth.

Initially a loving couple trying to conceive, Tori and her husband Kyle go through hell trying to raise the child they found at a crash site. Before being murdered, Tori discovers her husband's dead already, leaving it too late to try working with him to stop their son.

For a film that looked fun on the surface, Brightburn is a surprisingly cold, nihilistic affair. The harsh, sadistic treatment of Tori Brayer hammers this superhero horror's take-no-prisoners storytelling home, allowing it to end on an especially bleak note soon after.

John Cunningham hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
