10 Worst Friends In Horror Movies

1. Pelle Takes The Gang To Hårga – Midsommar (2019)

Sorority Row
A24

Folk horror Midsommar shook up screens and the broader genre in a way we never saw coming – and that was even after director Ari Aster's uniquely disturbing Hereditary (2018). For what can be more shocking than a traditional Scandinavian festival?

Pelle (Vilhelm Blomgren) takes his university anthropology pals (a young all-star cast, including Florence Pugh as Dani, Will Poulter as Mark and Jack Reynor as Christian) back from the US of A to his old stomping ground in Hälsingland, Sweden, to enjoy a summer of academic exploration, psychedelic drugs and human sacrifice.

Things are strange from the off, but the gang decide to take it in their stride, swallow the hard pill (or drink the spiked drink, as the case may be), and blend in as best they can. And this isn't easy, as, early on in proceedings, they are made to witness the suicide of two of the commune's elders.

Playing ignorant at first, we discover that Pelle knows exactly what he's put his friends in for and has intentionally led them to the commune in order for them to become crucial sacrifices in the summer festival's final ceremony. His efforts ensure the group are, amongst other things, gutted and stuffed with hay, sewn into a bearskin and burned alive.

Well, friends like these don't come along often...
