10 Worst Live-Action Superhero Fights In Cinema History
8. Batman Vs. Penguin - Batman Returns
Objectively, Batman Returns was one of the Dark Knight's finest moments up until the release of Christopher Nolan's 2005 reboot.
While it's a well-respected outing for Bats by both fans and critics alike, there was an area in which it left much to the imagination.
Batman's final showdown with Penguin was... strange, to say the least.
Attempting to escape in a duck-shaped car, Penguin is intercepted by Batman, causing him to crash. From the wreckage, the dumpy villain somehow gains the upper hand by jumping onto Batman's back, and we watch the two wrestle like pre-teens in a playground for a few moments before Batman regains control of the situation and knocks Penguin through a window, where he lands without ceremony in some pretty gross-looking contaminated water.
It's a shame, because the rest of the film manages to make an interesting compromise between the dark grittiness of the Caped Crusader's comic series and mingle it with the campiness of the 1966 TV adaptation.
The most infuriating part is that, with proper writing, the Penguin can be one of Batman's most interesting adversaries. For some reason, in Batman Returns, it just didn't quite work out that way.
