9. Ape-raham Lincoln - Planet of the Apes (2001)

Tim Burton and co. promised that, while the original Planet of the Apes was blessed with a wonderful plot twist, they would come up with their own mind-blowing sting in the tail to keep audiences on their toes. Well, it certainly blew our minds, though not quite in the manner I imagine they expected. To even start to explain the ending is a headache-inducing experience; Mark Wahlberg ends up going back to Earth (if he wasn't there to begin with; I'm not even sure anymore), and discovers that the Lincoln Memorial has now been changed to become a monument to an ape, General Thade. Police officers, firefighters and news reporters descend on his location, and - it gets worse - they're all apes. It's one of those ridiculous ambiguous twists that gives us very little and expects us to try and scramble through the various logical fallacies to come up with an answer that makes sense. Needless to say, most people couldn't really be bothered.
