1. Scary Movie V
And yet, nothing offended my cinematic sensibilities more egregiously than the fifth entry into the Scary Movie franchise, a film few people asked for, and one which was subsequently a financial disappointment, grossing only $63m against its $20m budget, a sure decline on the successful previous entries. It appears that the franchise's comic well has finally run dry, as Scary Movie V struggles to muster even a single laugh throughout its mercifully short 86-minute runtime. A brutal assault on the senses that tries to coast off some celebrity in-jokes but falls totally flat, Scary Movie V is the sort of film that might be stumbled upon by aliens in several millennia time and end up designated as some sort of surreal, Dada-esque experiment we attempted once, rather than the indication of a decaying cultural milieu that it is. Scary Movie V is a war crime, it is the reason the terrorists hate us, and it is easily one of the worst films I have ever seen. Which films have you despised this year?
