10 Worst Movies Of 2021

9. Tom & Jerry

Clifford the Big Red Dog was pretty bad, but it looked positively miraculous compared to this year's live-action/animated hybrid adaptation of Tom and Jerry.

In a gross attempt to rejuvenate the iconic franchise for a new generation of youngsters who gag at the thought of watching traditional 2D animation, the titular cat and mouse were dropkicked into our tangible reality in one of the year's most predictably lazy family-friendly "comedies."

Obnoxious social media references are commonplace and modern pop music is listlessly deployed to make scenes seem more fun than they actually are, and yet the film overall feels so hilariously '90s - a throwback to the corny, effects-heavy family comedies that began popping up 25-or-so years ago.

Shockingly it doesn't even do basically right by its two focal animals: there's far too much of a focus placed on the boring human characters, and though poor Chloƫ Grace Moretz tries her damnedest to make it all fun, her protagonist is ultimately too unlikeable to root for.

Tom and Jerry's 2D animation looks pretty good, but otherwise this is stale, warmed-over gruel in movie form. Your kids deserve better.
