10 Worst Movies Of 2021
7. Awake
Speaking of staying awake, the critical putdowns wrote themselves for Netflix's recent Gina Rodriguez-starring sci-fi thriller Awake, centered around a global calamity which wipes out all electronics and eliminates people's ability to sleep.
It's not a terrible concept by any means, but between the dull script and flat direction, this is a stamina-sappingly tedious rendition that even Rodriguez and supporting players Jennifer Jason Leigh and Barry Pepper can't much elevate.
You've seen this brand of modest apocalyptic thriller so many times before, but Awake is so imagination-devoid and limply executed it'll probably make you re-evaluate your misgivings about the comparatively vibrant Netflix Original Bird Box.
Again, at least it's short at just 96 minutes in length, but as the great Roger Ebert once said, "No good movie is too long and no bad movie is short enough."
