The other big stand out of Douglas's unlikely career as the star of erotic thrillers was 1992's Basic Instinct which...well, it's certainly not a good film, but it's got a credible twisty mystery plot, and Paul Verhoeven actually manages to make the sex scenes sexy. Unfortunately, none of the above can be said about the little-know sequel that somehow got made twenty years later. Sharon Stone returns as the man-eater and definite ice pick murderer Catherine Tramell, with the hapless male lead filled by David Morrissey, who really should've known better. With a much lower budget, a hackneyed script and some of the least arousing sex scenes committed this side of The Room, Basic Instinct 2 is as good an aphrodisiac as oysters to somebody with a shellfish allergy. Post-viewing relationship status: No sex for a week.
