10 Worst Oscar Winning Actors Ever

4. Cher

Cher's status as a force of nature is undeniable: by the early 1970s she was a successful singer and had a hit TV show, but desperately wanted for more: namely an Oscar.

After being nominated for her surprisingly solid performance in 1983's Silkwood, the iconic singer won the Best Actress Oscar outright for 1987's Moonstruck, and as history remembers it, she stopped trying almost immediately afterwards.

These roles, while entertaining, didn't exactly dissuade that Cher's range was fairly limited, and it didn't help that she developed chronic fatigue syndrome in the early 1990s, which severely limited her ability to capitalise on her awards success.

In order to make cash, Cher starred in a series of embarrassing, widely-parodied infomercials, and so mere years after she won the Oscar, Hollywood and general audiences both stopped taking her seriously as an actress.

Her acting work became increasingly sporadic, reaching its nadir with atrocious appearances in 2010's Burlesque - which scored her a Worst Supporting Actress Razzie nomination - and voicing "Janet the Lioness" in the horrid 2011 Kevin James vehicle Zookeeper.

With her scant acting range and questionable Oscar win - was she really better than Glenn Close (Fatal Attraction) and Sally Kirkland (Anna)? - Cher peaked quickly and has failed to back it up in the three decades since. After all, it's not likely her upcoming appearance in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again will persuade otherwise...
