While Ryan Reynolds’s brief cameo as Wade Wilson in X-Men Origins: Wolverine was spot-on, the travesty that would follow in the climax of the film in no way resembled Deadpool of the comics. In fact, it was straight-up offensive how poorly the character was adapted.

The powers were wrong, the look wasn’t even close, and the personality was laughable. When a character’s nickname is the ‘Merc With A Mouth’’ it’s probably best not to sew their mouth shut.

In a way, the depiction of Deadpool was emblematic of the film's problems as a whole, as the filmmakers just failed to understand the character and treated him more like a plot point than a fully-rounded individual.

This whole debacle is made only more painful in hindsight. We were just treated to an incredibly faithful adaptation of the character and it was rightfully adored. So looking back now at the abomination that Fox put out first, it’s a wonder that they didn’t screw him up a second time.

Which comic book character do you think got the worst adaption? Do you think there’s redemption for any of them? Let us know in the comments.
