10 Worst Villains In Film History

1. Venom - Spider-Man 3

Low-hanging fruit, sure, but this one deserves it. Why? Because of that mug right there. Venom is a legend. One of Spider-Man's most popular, mysterious, vicious, evil foes. Green Goblin? Who cares. This is the guy we all wanted to see. From the moment we first heard there would be a Spidey movie at all, it was the primary thing fans wanted. Oh, and did you say Sam Raimi was directing? You mean the guy who made Bruce Campbell a cult icon in his delightfully gross and twisted horror flicks? Oh yes. We're all over that. What we got, though, was nothing like what we hoped for. Venom played a cursory role at best, following the Sand Man which stole the show with a stunningly beautiful scene depicting his emergence. Meanwhile, Venom's character ended up becoming supplanted by Eddie Brock, a rival photographer with a grudge against Peter Parker for outing his shady dealings with the newspaper. The whole thing felt childish and silly, rather than intimidating and suspenseful. The worst sin, though, was the amount of screen time given to Topher Grace. Maybe it was a budget thing. That Sand Man effect can't be cheap, so perhaps using a plastic mask instead of a full CGI face saved the studio a few hundred thousand dollars. Or maybe Sam Raimi genuinely thought that a white guy with curiously perfectly gelled hair would be scarier than an amorphous alien with razor sharp fangs, a slimy tongue, and goo dripping from its face. Let's take his word for it, guys. He's a horror director, after all.
