10 Worst Ways Movie Characters Have Died In Space

8. Ripped Apart By A Martian Cyclone - Mission To Mars

Total Recall
Buena Vista Pictures

Mission to Mars begins with a group of astronauts being attacked by a vortex while investigating the surface of the red planet. As soon as the monstrous twister appears, it hurls a rock at one of a crew member's head, crushing his face. (If that sounds horrific, don't worry. He got it easy compared to the next guy.)

As the vortex envelops everything in its path, the remaining astronauts try their best to run away. Sadly, the power of the natural disaster is too great, forcing another crew member, Nicholas, getting sucked in. The windspeed of the cyclone spins Nicholas around so quickly, it rips his entire body apart, hurling his limbs in all directions.

You know what makes this scene all the more disturbing? Mission to Mars isn't a horror film. Heck, it was rated PG! Many viewers who were hoping for a fun sci-fi flick were traumatised after watching a man being dismembered in the opening scene. Having said that, you won't forget this scene any time soon, (which is more than you can about the rest of this terrible movie).
