10 Worst Western Movies Of Past 20 Years

9. Jonah Hex

The next entry is a bit of a head-scratcher; Jonah Hex was originally a DC Comics character that was adapted to the big screen in 2010. Superhero stories have occasionally dabbled in western themes when writing their stories so surely Hex would be a sure-fire hit? Regrettably the answer is a whole-hearted no.

At first glance it seems pretty edgy, an over-the-top blockbuster that crosses the western setting with a protagonist wielding a gatling gun on foot. Where it all falls apart is through its jumbled story that jumps all over the place chronologically without giving its cast room to breathe.

Josh Brolin plays the man at its centre, but he doesn't amount to much beyond a gruff and tough persona. The film did poorly in theatres and was subsequently lambasted by the critics. Be that as it may, Warner Bros is planning a reboot within its DC Extended Universe.

For all its comic book trappings, Jonah Hex is incredibly sloppy but arguably the most disappointing thing is its wasted cast. Michael Fassbender, Will Arnett, Michael Shannon and Lance Reddick have all done great work previously and it's a shame to see them sold short on such a lacklustre product. You're better off just sticking to the source material.
