10 WTF Animal Horror Movies You Won't Believe Exist

8. The Food Of The Gods

Ghost Shark Title
American International Pictures

Very, very loosely based on a novel by H. G. Wells, The Food of the Gods is basically the go hard or go home of the giant animal attack genre.

After a mysterious substance begins bubbling forth from the ground on a remote Canadian island, the local fauna starts feeding on it and mutating into impossibly large versions of themselves. Soon the island paradise is overrun with supersized and bloodthirsty wasps, maggots, chickens and the like.

The biggest menaces of all however are the huge, man-eating rats terrorizing the island and its residents, which in reality are just regular sized rats filmed next to miniature sized props.

Ridiculous as The Food of the Gods is, it’s one of the few films via which you can bear witness to a man fighting a giant, irate rooster armed only with his fists and a pitchfork so it has that going for it at least.
