10 WTF Animal Horror Movies You Won't Believe Exist

6. Beginning Of The End

Ghost Shark Title
Republic Pictures

From the same mind that gave us the equally ridiculous Food of the Gods, director Bert I. Gordon, Beginning of the End is widely regarded as one of worst sci-fi horrors of the 1950s. For a decade that also produced such luminary cinematic classics as The Mole People, Attack of the Crab Monsters and The Wasp Woman that’s quite a feat.

The killer animals in Beginning of the End aren’t moles, crabs or wasps however but grasshoppers – the rather cute, herbivorous insects who usually don’t present much of a threat unless you happen to be a plant.

They’re not your regular grasshoppers, of course, but man-eaters that have grown to the size of a bus thanks to an experiment designed to produce giant fruit and vegetables to cure world hunger goes awry.

You may have noticed that the movie’s title is deliberately vague and gives no clues as to the grasshopper antagonists at its core and for good reason: grasshoppers are NOT scary.
