10 WTF Ideas Turned Into Horror Movies

3. The Mangler

New Line Cinema

The Mangler sounded like it could've been something special. It was adapted from a Stephen King short story, helmed by horror auteur Tobe Hooper, and stars Freddy Krueger himself, Robert Englund.

However, it's hard to get on board with the plot thanks to the laughable story. Rather than fighting a towering serial killer or a nightmarish beast, the ensemble squares off against a haunted laundry press.

Somehow, that's not the dumbest part. It turns out the town elders have been sacrificing their virgin daughters to the infernal machine for centuries in exchange for power (and probably some neatly folded clothes).

Despite being arguably Hooper's worst film, The Mangler spawned, not one, but two sequels. Surprise, surprise, they're both terrible.
