10 Zombie Horror Movies That Have No Right Being This Good

8. Maggie (2015)

Taking a different approach to the typical zombie movie formula -- in which one of the main cast has secretly been bitten and will either turn into a zombie and attempt to kill the gang or sacrifice themselves in a moment of great nobility -- 2015's Maggie begins with an already turned victim. After his daughter Maggie (Abigail Breslin) is infected with the zombie virus, small-town farmer Wade (Arnold Schwarzenegger) will do everything within his power to keep her from a grim fate.

A horror drama, Maggie looks at all the heartbreaking ways in which a zombie apocalypse can unite and tear apart a family. Ergo Schwarzenegger was not an obvious choice for the lead, who, while not a stranger to horror, is better known for his action roles than anything even remotely dramatic. On top of this, director Henry Hobson had no experience of feature filmmaking, having only made commercials prior to filming.

Somehow, Hobson's film persevered, Arnie shed some tears, and we were all left looking aghast as one of the most harrowing yet least bloody zombie horrors dragged itself across our screens.
