Anna and the Apocalypse is a Christmas themed zombie movie to give film-goers a brain-eating story to watch during the festive period. And on top of that, it's also a full-blown musical.

Yes, this is just as daft as it sounds, but the movie is just the right amount of stupid and knows exactly what it wants to do. The music numbers as catchy, the characters effortlessly likable and the film is stunning to look at in parts.

There's plenty of big song sequences, including an early showstopping number that has Anna singing and dancing through the scenes of carnage unfolding around her as the zombie outbreak begins.

It satisfies gore hounds too, with many blood-soaked showdowns with the living dead while keeping the tone light and bouncy to prepare for any of the superbly choreographed show tunes.

The characters are a hoot, the songs are great and its a one of the freshest films featuring the undead in a long time that goes against so much of what one expects from a zombie film. It's not for everyone, but for those looking for a brand new take on the genre they need look no further.

Who would have thought the Apocalypse could be so fun?
