10 Zombie Movies That Put A Unique Spin On The Horror Genre
9. Cemetery Man
The small Italian town of Buffalora owes thanks to its resident cemetery caretaker, Francesco Dellamorte. If it wasn't for him, the town would be overrun with the undead, who rise from their graves seven days after death. Probably for the best they don't advertise that in the job description.
Dellamorte shoulders this responsibility alone as the town mayor is fixated on re-election, and he concedes it's easier to just shoot them back down again rather than submitting any paperwork to get some assistance. It's a bleak perspective, and even though Dellamorte isn't a sole survivor of an outbreak, he certainly feels like one.
That is until he falls in love with a recently widowed woman, who offers him some fleeting respite. It's unusual to find a compelling love story in a zombie movie, but given the circumstances, of course tragedy looms on the horizon.
The emotional toil wreaked on the protagonist over the course of the runtime is heartbreaking, and the film's climax shouldn't be spoiled here, but by the end of the film, it's hard not to question who the monsters really are.
