100 Comics That Should Be Movies

Comic book fans are some of the hardest to please no matter what the medium. No matter how well received a film adaptation may be or how closely it sticks to the original source material there will always be someone out there in the real world that has something negative to say about it - whether the filmmakers changed a tiny detail on a heroes costume or got a location slightly wrong or even if they cast the wrong person in a lead role, because so and so would have been a far better choice even though he's never made a dime at the box office. They say there's something for everyone but for comic book fans there's just never enough. Who wants to sit through another Batman movie or another over hyped Marvel blockbuster when they could be making an epic yarn about Arm Fall Off Boy (genuine DC character we kid you not) or some other obscure hero who no one has ever heard of except you? Yes, there may be something for everyone but you sure can't please everyone either, but Hollywood will continue to try. During one particularly slow afternoon here at What Culture HQ an argument erupted over which comic book deserved to be adapted for the big screen next. This seemingly innocent squabble quickly became a serious game of one-upmanship that resulted in this here list you see before you - the definitive list of comic books and story arcs we are chomping at the bit to see in our local overpriced Mutiplex. Hopefully there's something here to keep all of our wonderful yet equally nerdy readers happy, but if after feasting your eyes on the goodies we've come up with you're still not happy then you can always contribute your own ideas in the comments section below.

100. Olympus Heights

This little known gem is an unusual offering from the traditionally dark and twisted IDW publishing house and is a light hearted, beautifully illustrated tale about a mild mannered museum worker named Oliver Dobbs who discovers that his cranky old neighbour is actually the Greek deity Zeus. He discovers that the mysterious sculptures that have been turning up each night at the museum are in fact mythical creatures captured by the bounty hunting exiled God. In typical adventure yarn fashion Oliver finds himself dragged into all the action and winds up becoming an unlikely sidekick. The comic has an all round feel of a web comic in both storytelling and appearance, and is sadly a very underrated title. How Close is it to being made?: There has been no talk of this ever making it to the big screen but it's perfect fodder for such an endeavour. Olympus Heights would make a great addition to the kids fantasy adventure sub genre currently inhabited by the likes of Harry Potter, Captain Jack and Percy Jackson. Casting Choices: The role of Oliver would be perfect for someone like Simon Pegg or while the mighty Zeus could be played by Chuck Norris, because, well let's face it HE'S CHUCK NORRIS. If the role requires someone taller then how about Clancy Brown? He's big, he's mean and he's as close to a God as we puny humans get! Also, Ricky Gervais or Alan Rickman would be great choices to play Dobb's horrible weasel boss. Suggested by Matt Aspin
