100 Comics That Should Be Movies

6. Spider-Man: Kraven's Last Hunt

Kraven's Last Hunt is the greatest Spider-Man story in the character's illustrious half a century of existence. Criminally, Sam Raimi or Sony Pictures didn't use the villainous character for a movie with the old continuity but with a new reboot with Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker at the forefront, that doesn't mean this story can't be told within the next few years. Written by J.M. DeMatteis and Mike Zeck and published in 1987, the story centres on the super villain's anxiety and growing desperation to capture Spider-Man. His inability to take him down is destroying his sanity and he comes to the conclusion that to defeat Spider-Man, he should shoot him down. He does so, seemingly killing him and after he has buried Parker, he takes on the mantle of Spider-Man to prove himself superior to his former adversary. He prowls the streets of New York and brutally attacks any criminal he sees and even captures a supervillain by the name of Vermin, who Spider-Man could only capture with the help of Captain America. After weeks of fighting as Spider-Man, Peter Parker returns from the grave (it turns out Kraven only shot him with a tranquilliser dart) and fights Kraven, but the Hunter doesn't fight back and allows himself to be defeated. He considers the fact he defeated Spider-Man and then performed better than him with the costume as his final point that he was superior. Kraven releases Vermin and he attacks Spider-Man, thinking it was he who attacked him before but Kraven intervenes before Parker gets killed. Kraven says his hunting days have ended, he returns home and thinks about the past and enjoys the peace he now feels, before committing suicide with a shotgun. Meanwhile Spider-Man manages to catch Vermin and goes back to his wife, forever shaken. Obviously the shotgun aspect would be too adult for a Spider-Man movie to depict, but committing suicide in another way wouldn't be. What a story, what a movie opportunity and in reality the Vermin character could be anybody in the Spider-Man rogues gallery. How Close Is It To Being Made?: There have been no suggestions that Kraven will be used as a Spider-Man villain on screen, though that doesn't mean it won't happen someday. Casting: Josh Brolin as Kraven - who else? Suggested by Matt Holmes
