9 - The Killer
When a man has as many great action movies under his belt as John Woo, to say the best John Woo movie is a rather large statement. Still, for my money it is The Killer hands down. Chow Yun Fat plays an assassin with a conscience and when he accidentally blinds a night club singer he takes it upon himself to help her out. He also falls in love with her. So does the cop who is after Chow and a love triangle turns into a skewed friendship and an ending worthy of Shakespeare. While the story is largely clichéd, the action is about as good as gun fighting can be. Slow motion, doves, firing two guns while jumping through the air....all the John Woo-isms are here and they are at their very best.
Best bit: A tense sniping hit followed by a boat chase and a beach side shootout.....the most perfectly directed and edited action sequence I've ever seen.
