100 Greatest Movie Villains Of All Time

43. Count Dracula - Dracula

Music 5 Dracula Played By: Bela Lugosi Dracula is the role that immortalised Bela Lugoski as his leering portrayal of the Brian Stoker character is one of the most important in Hollywood history. Nobody could flick the cape like Bela as he camps it up to just the right level. Everything from True Blood to Twilight owes a debt to Bela Lugoski's portrayal as Dracula as he created the formula for how vampires should act and look. The performance wasn't just historically important, it was down right scary and Dracula could unnerve us just by simply staring into the camera. Horror owes a debt to Lugoski and there are few things creepier than the scene where he leers over a sleeping woman.

42. Dudley Smith - LA Confidential

LA Confidential Played By: James Cromwell James Cromwell looks like a loveable grandpa, which makes the reveal that it is him who is the corrupt killer that more shocking. Smith twinkles with innocence and is never suspected to be the virus that rotted the LAPD to its core. He will do anything to make sure his corruption goes unfounded including shooting down the LAPD's own quasi-celebrity Jack Vincennes whose fast-talking charisma has you loving him from the off. Smith is calculated and stays in the shadows to avoid detection and it's only when his crimes are revealed do you realise how much of a monster he was. He may look harmless but his determination and ruthlessness is relentless.

41. Gunnery Sergeant Hartman - Full Metal Jacket

hartmann Played By: R. Lee Emery Gunnery Sergeant Hartman is the man responsible for turning young men into heartless killing machines. That kind of job includes humiliation, belittling and bullying of the highest order as he beats down young men until their souls crack and they become insane. In the opening scenes of Stanley Kubrick's movie it is hard to decide whether you are enthralled or terrified by the intimidating patriot, he gets the quotable dialogue and a screen presence impossible to ignore. But it doesn't take long for you to realise the true horror of the man and the military process which is degrading, cruel and unnecessary. Hartman's job is to dehumanise, which may the cruellest and most evil job of all, and he seems to take pride in it.
