11 Actors Who (Hopefully) Killed Their Careers In 2014

7. Seth MacFarlane

Be clear that this entry is strictly referring to Seth MacFarlane as a live-action actor rather than as a writer, director, voice actor, or anything else in his skill set he might have to offer. After all, MacFarlane is in many respects the Godfather (or at least one of them) of contemporary animation, what with the astronomical success of his shows Family Guy and American Dad, in addition to his fine work writing, directing and voice acting in smash hit comedy Ted. MacFarlane arguably got a little ahead of himself, however, by taking a starring live-action part in his own comedy, A Million Ways to Die in the West, which received mediocre critical notices (33%), and scored an OK if unremarkable $86.4 million box office on a $40 million budget, which looks even worse when compared to Ted's $549 million worldwide take. Of course, a stuffed, sweary, stoned bear is always going to equal more box office moolah than some guy in a comedy western (a genre that has always proved tricky with audiences: Wild Wild West and Cowboys and Aliens, anyone?), but did MacFarlane really expect people to connect with him beyond his array of voices? Given the disappointing showing here, it's probably best for the comedy legend to keep his face behind the camera.
