Despite the trend of original franchise stars returning that's been set by Halloween and will continue with Terminator: Dark Fate, it seems that Peter Weller isn't coming back for the RoboCop sequel currently being made by Neill Blomkamp.

The original star hasn't been involved in the franchise since RoboCop 3, with Joel Kinnaman stepping in for José Padilha's reboot and while new incoming director Blomkamp wants to emulate Paul Verhoeven's original as closely as possible in RoboCop Returns, he won't get one of his wishes.

Blomkamp had openly expressed his desire to bring Weller back for his most famous role, but SuperBroMovies reported back in November that Weller has chosen not to return.

What It Means For The Film:

It's a big shame, considering the marketability of nostalgia at the minute and the fact that the title suggests a continuation of the original series. But Weller is 71-years-old now and it's probably right for him to bow out. Let's just hope they recast him with someone with more charm than Kinnaman brought to the reboot.
