When the penultimate season of Game of Thrones began with Walder Frey addressing his bannermen in the hall made famous by the Red Wedding (it’s doubtful that they’ve booked many weddings since), fans were momentarily puzzled.
Last we saw of Frey, he was extremely dead, having had his gullet opened wide by… and then it hits you. This isn’t Walder Frey at all, but rather Arya Stark literally wearing his face and most likely his hand skin because they look appropriately wrinkly. The Faceless Men are so method.
David Bradley is perfect in this scene: he infuses this performance with just enough Arya to let the audience know that something is a little off. You can see the genuine excitement in his eyes when he, or rather she, poisons everyone in the room.
It makes you want to look behind him to see if Maisie Williams is back there working his body like a ventriloquist.
