11 Awesome Actors Who Broke Into Hollywood Late
9. Steve Carell
Steve Carell began his acting career back in 1991 at the age of 29, but it wasn't until 2003 that he managed to graduate beyond bit-parts in TV shows and TV movies, with his breakthrough role in the Jim Carrey comedy Bruce Almighty at age 40.
Carell had a small but memorable part in the film as newsreader Evan Baxter, who famously gets tongue-tied on the air thanks to Carrey's celestial shenanigans, with Carell giving an hilarious physical performance in the bargain.
Carell quickly followed it up with the iconic roles of Brick Tamland in Anchorman and Andy Stitzer in The 40-Year-Old Virgin, the latter confirming him to have leading man comedic chops.
At this point his TV career also skyrocketed with the American version of The Office succeeding after a shaky start, but Carrell refused to abandon his movie work, proving himself a fine dramatic actor with his role in the Oscar-winning drama Little Miss Sunshine. He further cemented himself as a "serious" actor with his Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination for his unforgettable performance in Foxcatcher.
Though he certainly doesn't look it, Carell will turn 57 years old this year after having barely 15 years of Hollywood fame under his belt. Ageing gracefully or what?
