11 Awful Directors With One Great Movie

4. Adam Shankman - Hairspray

The Awful Director: Music video choreographer-turned-director Adam Shankman has helmed a number of financially successful but critically reviled comedies and musical films, most notably J-Lo vehicle The Wedding Planner, Mandy Moore cringe-fest A Walk to Remember, Vin Diesel's ill-advised foray into family comedy The Pacifier, Cheaper by the Dozen 2, and Adam Sandler's Bedtime Stories. Enough said.

The One Great Movie: Shankman did enjoy critical success with his 2007 remake of John Waters' classic musical Hairspray, but let's be honest, the film worked more because of the incredibly game cast (especially John Travolta) rather than Shankman's direction.

Plus, he had the huge benefit of working with majorly acclaimed source material, so he would've had to try extra hard to screw it up.
