11 Comic Book Origins That Were Very Different In The Movies

1. Catwoman - In EVERY Film

Catwoman Batman Returns Origin

Poor, poor Catwoman. As far as origin stories go, hers is relatively uncomplicated, consisting in the comics of a fairly mundane case of an orphan growing up on the streets of Gotham.

Presumably, this origin wasn't considered interesting enough, as in both Batman Returns and the 2004 Catwoman film, Selina's costumed career is begun with her appearing to die in both films, revived by cats each time. Similarly, both films totally avoid having the cat burglar start out as the tough street kid that she is, having her instead be a meek and mild woman in an office job.

Even Anne Hathaway's Catwoman didn't totally escape this fate, as we learn that she broke out of a women's correctional facility when she was sixteen in the film universe - whereas in the comics she avoided any kind of confinement or capture entirely.

Why these bizarre changes occurred is anyone's guess, but at least they set the bar relatively low for any future features of Selina Kyle.
