11 Comic Book Origins That Were Very Different In The Movies
3. Captain Marvel (2019)
While the hate for the Captain Marvel film was largely unwarranted, a small amount is kind of justified by Carol being introduced with amnesia in the beginning of the film.
Carol Danvers' introduction to the MCU as 'Vers' - a member of the Starforce who remembers little of her past - did have the potential to alienate audiences initially, due to her seeming just naturally good at everything. This was something that could have been avoided by showing her comic origins from the start, as much of Marvel's beginnings revolve around her continually striving to be better in order to prove herself to her dismissive father, which would eventually lead her to join the military for further training.
Although nobody wants half of the film to be a Rocky-style montage of Danvers steadily getting more talented, any reference to her efforts would have greatly benefitted the film, and shown just how admirable a character Captain Marvel truly is.
Aside from this memory loss plot point, Captain Marvel still remains somewhat close to its comic source material - aside from changing her Air Force call sign to 'Avenger', when in the comics she goes by the slightly less impressive 'Cheeseburger'.
