11 Criminally Underrated Superheroes Hollywood Totally Ruined

6. Jonah Hex

DC's Jonah Hex is, one would wager, the most popular western comic character in DC's library. While that may not sound all that impressive, it was enough to convince Warner Bros. that the character be given a cinematic conversion. It wasn't good.

Despite floundering at the box office and in the minds of critics and casual moviegoers alike, Jonah Hex did not lack talent. Indeed, Josh Brolin was a fine pick for the character, and the likes of John Malkovich, Michael Fassbender and Michael Shannon all featured prominently in the film's story. All four couldn't save the film from a terrible plot however, leaving the film to gross a dismal $10 million over the course of its run in theatres, leaving audiences with a sour taste of the gunslinger who, given the right material, could've easily become a fan favourite character.

The one consolation prize fans did receive came in the form of DC Showcase's Jonah Hex short, a ten minute piece of animation that nailed the character perfectly. In the slight, slight chance that Hex gets another onscreen revival, please just let those guys take the reigns. Considering the cast included Thomas Jane and Linda Hamilton, that wouldn't be a bad thing at all.
