11 Criminally Underrated Superheroes Hollywood Totally Ruined
4. The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is one of Alan Moore's most treasured works, so it only makes sense that the guy would have it torn apart in a retirement-inducing critical disaster.
For those unfamiliar with Moore's Victorian comic book, the League revolves around some of the most famous literary protagonists (and antagonists) of the 19th century. The series features the likes of Allan Quatermain (played by Sean Connery in the film), Mina Harker, Dr. Jekyll, Captain Nemo and a bunch more as they do battle with the likes of Professor Moriarty over the course of various different literary periods. It's brilliantly gothic, and ranks among Moore's greatest works.
The film, however, most certainly does not, and divested so much from the series that it was based on that, for all intents and purposes, it probably shouldn't even be considered an adaptation. Granted, there's enough to enjoy about the film on a rather puerile level, but it lacks the meticulous bombast of Moore's material, a surefire way of ensuring that it ranks among the most forgettable comic book adaptations out there.
Regardless, Moore will presumably be none too pleased with Fox's plans to reboot the franchise, even if they only have a tentative release date in mind.
