The Great Actor: As a director Orson Welles was too ahead of his times. His films showed a prowess and creativity that left some contemporary critics bemused and studios fearful of their prospects, often enforcing movie-altering cuts (most prominently with The Magnificent Ambersons). Heck, it took decades for Citizen Kane, his undoubted masterwork, to be fully recognised. As an actor there was less contention about Welles. An art that had existed much longer than film-making, through his career it was clear he was a master performer. The Terrible Final Role: Unicron - Transformers: The Movie The last Welles film released was Someone To Love, but after shooting that he'd done one final project; Transformers: The Movie. That's right, the unforgettable Orson Welles' last ever movie was a cartoon about robots that turn into cars, in which he played a planet eating monster. Lacking the putridness of the modern Michael Bay-directed series, the eighties-era Transformers were far from a great property, with a convoluted story existing just in an attempt to add legitimacy to what is, as it always has been, a toy commercial. Welles was fully aware of the film's ridiculousness, although the producer's weren't as aware of his increasing vocal problems; the original recording was far from the baritone he was known for.
