Just when everyone thought DC were putting all of their eggs into that one big shiny basket marked Batman Vs Superman the studio threw something of a curveball in the confirmation that Suicide Squad actually was going to be a thing. It had officially been in development since 2009, but confidence that it would actually get off the ground wavered, especially in light of how poorly the Justice League movie had progressed for so long. But then in September Warner Bros. announced Fury's David Ayer as director and the news machine whirred into life, spitting out some tasty sounding rumours, which almost universally happened to be true (or at least close to true). And when the confirmation of the cast did come, despite some misgivings about Will Smith as Deadshot, everything looked massively exciting. Margot Robbie should be an exceptional Harley Quinn, Jared Leto has it in him to go full weird for The Joker and Tom Hardy has already proved he knows how to play villains for DC. Incredibly, it doesn't seem outrageous or unjustified to feel excited.
