11 Hated Sci-Fi Movies That Became Cult Classics
3. The Hidden
They Live may be the more celebrated anti-Reaganite film of the 80s, but hold a place in your heart for Jack Sholder's The Hidden, featuring a pre-Twin Peaks Kyle MacLachlan as a "good" alien hunting down a body-switching evil one. To quote him, "It sees anything he likes, he takes it. Anyone gets in its way, he kills them." It just so happens that said alien has a taste for fast cars, bad hair bands and other things the 80s were loaded with. That it came out the same year as Black Monday is no surprise, but rather telling.
Eventually, the alien inhabits a sitting Senator about to kick off his Presidential run. His limited English makes his slogan digestible to the general public: "I want to be President."
No political mind, no brain for economics, no care for the fellow man because, he's not like any other man. There's a reason The Hidden and They Live have such a long shelf-life; they're still relevant.
