11 Huge Screw-Ups From The 94th Oscar Film Nominations

6. Snub: Rachel Zegler For Best Actress

Don't Look Up
20th Century Studios

Title Edit: The Best Actress Field

Nominees: Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye), Olivia Colman (The Lost Daughter), Penelope Cruz (Parallel Mothers), Nicole Kidman (Being the Ricardos) and Kristen Stewart (Spencer).

Three out of the four acting categories this year were largely satisfying, but they kind-of dropped the ball on Best Actress. It was a huge relief that Kristen Stewart got the Best Actress nomination she so deserved (and she should arguably win) and Olivia Colman's nomination was well-earned, but it's hard to make a convincing argument that the other three really deserved to be here.

Kidman and Chastain were both very good but were stuck with mediocre material and although Penelope Cruz was as excellent as she always is in Pedro Almodovar's latest, there were quite a few better choices from the past year.

Firstly, the fact that Rachel Zegler wasn't nominated for her completely amazing performance as Maria in West Side Story was absolutely ridiculous, and then there are quite a few other fantastic performances that would've been worthy picks as well.

Jodie Comer in The Last Duel, Martha Plimpett in Mass, Alana Haim in Licorice Pizza or Lady Gaga in House of Gucci (not a great film, but a great performance) - any of those would've been far worthier and more interesting choices.
