11 Images That Will Restore Your Faith In Upcoming Movies
9. Aladdin
Why We're Worried: Though the live-action adaptations of classic Disney animated movies have been pretty solid so far, the prospect of the absurdly inconsistent Guy Ritchie helming an Aladdin adaptation definitely sets some alarm bells ringing.
Plus, with recent reports that the production has hired white crew members and altered their skin with make-up rather than just hire ethnically appropriate talents, it's even less easy to be enthusiastic about it moving forward.
Why This Image Rocks: Though there are still a lot of question marks hanging over the movie's production, this image of the key characters does shift a good deal of the fan anxiety.
The picture, posted by Will Smith on his Instagram account, shows himself, Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott and Marwan Kenzari, who will play the Genie, Aladdin, Princess Jasmine and Jafar respectively.
For starters, the cast seems to be ethnically appropriate and surprisingly reflective of their animated counterparts. A picture can only say so much, and of course they're not in costume here, but if Ritchie can bring his A-game, this just might work on the basis of its appealing cast.
