6. Wolverine With Bob Hoskins
The perception of Wolverine as an iconic movie character could have been turned on its head had comic book writer Chris Claremont had his way a couple of decades ago. Claremont actually wanted the late Bob Hoskins to play the animalistic hero and he pushed for that movie to happen in the days before the current franchise was a thing and had this to say about the topic:
Over the course of the three (first X-Men) films he evolved on screen in much the same manner he evolved in the comic. The Wolverine quite naturally becomes the core essence of the group. It would have been interesting if wed done it 25 years ago and Id gotten my wish and Bob Hoskins had played him. Hoskins has that same degree of mad fury and hes short. Dont think of Super Mario Bros. think of The Long Good Friday. With Hugh Jackman, it just reverses the paradigm, hes six foot four and who cares?
A short, stumpy and more temperamental Wolverine would certainly have been interesting, but we can't see it working as well as the current franchise. The likes of Dougray Scott, Johnny Depp and Glenn Danzig had also been connected to Wolverine prior to Hugh Jackman's casting, which would have been very different movies. However, Hugh Jackman was the first to play the X-Men legend and the rest is history.
