11 Movie Casting Choices The Public Couldn't Handle

9. Jai Courtney - Kyle Reese (Terminator Genisys)

Long-suffering fans of the Terminator franchise have had to endure countless re-casts of all the major characters over the years, especially with regard to Sarah Connor and John Connor.

But in the fifth film, Terminator Genisys, this once again extended to resistance soldier Kyle Reese, who was of course played with gruff brilliance by Michael Biehn in the original film, while Anton Yelchin put in a solid effort as his teenage equivalent in the mostly terrible Terminator Salvation.

But for Genisys, Jai Courtney was cast to play Reese, a decision which was immediately met with derision from the fanbase.

At the time, Courtney was largely known for a string of unimpressive performances in the likes of A Good Day to Die Hard, I, Frankenstein, and the Divergent series.

Dubbed "the new Sam Worthington" by many - a bland white actor Hollywood was desperately trying to make happen - his casting didn't seem worthy of such a legendary sci-fi character, especially amid reports that the far better-suited Boyd Holbrook had also been considered for the part.

In the end, Courtney wasn't worse than anything else in the movie - which, of course, was painfully mediocre - though failed to make much of an impact.

Still, his performance at least proved more convincing than Emilia Clarke's risible turn as Sarah Connor.
