As further proof that YA fans can be very particular about the casting of their beloved movie adaptations, we have the much protested casting of Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen, the hunky vampiric lead of the Twilight franchise.

Pattinson, known only for playing Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire at the time, was perceived to lack Edward's expected physical features, especially given that author Stephenie Meyer had originally written the character with Henry Cavill in mind. Oof.

Pattinson himself stated that his casting caused "unanimous unhappiness" among the fanbase, and admitted he had to stop reading blogs about the movie due to negativity.

Worse still, he received "bags of letters" from angry fans who felt he couldn't possibly play Edward because he was already Harry Potter's Diggory.

The fanbase soon enough came around once Twilight hit screens and became a box office phenom, with the four-movie franchise eventually grossing a stonking $3.3 billion worldwide.

Pattinson and his co-star Kristen Stewart made it incredibly obvious while doing press for the later movies that they weren't particularly fond of the films, yet in the years that followed managed to cultivate successful and respected careers away from the blockbuster realm.
