11 Movie Posters That Really Know How To Sell A Film

7. The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight There have been some awesome posters created over the course of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy. The black silhouette of Batman amid the rising swarm of bats for the Batman Begins poster or the bat signal burned into flames in the tower block above Batman himself for The Dark Knight. But it was this teaser for that second film that was the most interesting for me. What this poster did was introduce us to Nolan's version of the iconic Joker and still keep all the mystery of his character in tact for the film himself. A hazy image behind the glass, even his eyes are two black holes of emptiness, we are immediately drawn to the one thing that epitomises his character - his smile. It is rather gruesome and suggests a darker, more sinister approach to the character than Jack Nicholson's Joker from Tim Burton's Batman. The tag line 'why so serious' suggests that we have a sick and twisted individual here, very much at home on the harsh, dark world created in Batman Begins. I love that we don't see any features of the man himself. In terms of selling the film, this nails it. We know who Batman is...with that finale calling card scene from Batman Begins, audiences were excited to see the Joker re-imagined. This gives them of a hook without spoiling them. A class act that many films should follow. Sometimes showing a little less is a little more...
