11 Movie Sequels That Turned Badasses Into Total Wimps
8. Wolverine - Origins: Wolverine
It's hard to imagine it now, but there was a time when the first Origins movie (there were plans for more of course) had huge potential. Fox had correctly identified the most saleable asset from the X-Men series, and planned to bring in three fan favourite characters (Gambit, Deadpool and Blob), with the genius casting of Liev Schreiber rounding out the good points.
But then we actually got to see the film, and something was very, very wrong. And though several elements - the script, the direction, some of the casting - were all rightly lambasted, it was how the film presented Wolverine himself that was the biggest problem. A stand-alone Wolverine film should have concentrated on the berserker side of his character, before delving into the wounds that made him that way.
He should have been an animal tamed by love, rather than starting out as a blunted weapon. The most interesting aspect of his character is his animal instincts, and the fact that he's constantly on a knife edge about to lose control, but that simply never happens in Wolverine, and the agenda to make him a layered leading men compromised precisely what made him appealing.
