11 Movies That Were Far Better Than They Had Any Right To Be

6. Premium Rush (2012)

Premium RushWhy It Had No Right To Be Any Good: Movie Built Around A Bike Messenger A movie about a bike messenger racing around New York trying to avoid cars and delivering packages isn't exactly the stuff of cinematic dreams, and yet here's a movie that stemmed from an idea by one of the world's highest paid and most successful screenwriters, David Koepp, who saw it working on a relatively low-budget and with Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the lead. And who were we to argue with him? He was right, to be fair. Don't get me wrong: Premium Rush isn't a bonafide masterpiece, nor are you likely to come out singing the praises of its writer/director until you're blue in the face. But if you've caught this movie, you'll likely to agree that Koepp manages to milk his premise for all its worth (in a good way) for a solid, thrilling and genuinely impressive 90 minutes, as we watch Gordon-Levitt going up against crooked cop Michael Shannon. Great!
