11 Powerful Movie Deaths Devalued By The Sequels

3. General Zod - Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice (2016)

Fast Furious
Warner Bros.

The death of Kryptonian General Zod at the hands of Superman himself is a true cinematic shock to the system. The Man of Steel's pain is palpable as he is forced to snap his rival's neck, ending the life of one of the only other surviving members of his race.

In true Hollywood fashion, that's not nearly enough of a burden for Kal-El to carry on his shoulders, so what does the sequel do? Not bring Zod back, no, no. More like have Lex Luthor use his corpse to create a genetically engineered Kryptonian-human killing machine.

It's the disrespect here that really makes Zod's 'return' that much worse. Why the writers didn't think to leave him well enough alone as a haunting memory in Superman's otherwise hopeful mind is anyone's guess. Instead, they tarnished not one, but three classic DC characters - Zod, Doomsday and Lex Luthor - for the sake of raising the stakes in a way that could flimsily serve to unite Batman and Superman against a common enemy.
