5. What's The Reason For The Flashbacks?

The first trailer saw Cap' burst into a forties-style bar and some ballerinas, while the latest had a distinctly younger Black Widow undergoing nefarious surgery, which is enough to all but confirm that Avengers: Age Of Ultron will have flashbacks. Natasha Romanoff's checkered history has been teased in every one of her appearances, so it's only natural the MCU would eventually elaborate on it, but, rather than just a narrative divergence, could this and Cap's time displacement be very much plot essential. In the comics, Scarlett Witch has the ability to warp reality, meaning these torturous flashbacks ("look at the life you lost", "look at the trauma you went through", etc.) could be all part of her initial assault on the Avengers. Or, you know, time travel.
