11 Reshoots That Actually Improved Movies

5. Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes

The Reshoot: The movie's original ending saw James Franco's Will die saving Caesar's life, but just a month before the film hit cinemas, the finale was reshot to instead give Caesar and Will an emotional farewell as Caesar disappears into the forest and Will survives.

How It Improved The Movie: Will dying just sounds cliched and predictable, but instead we got an emotional and memorable beat between the two characters which cemented the nature of their relationship without resorting to melodrama.

It's ultimately fairly immaterial as Dawn of the Planet of the Apes didn't feature Will either way, but his death would've felt arbitrary and tragic for no sake but its own. Instead, we got a nice, quiet character moment that was likely much more effective.
