11 Terrible Early Drafts That Almost Ruined Iconic Villains
10. Green Goblin - Spider-Man
Sam Raimi's Green Goblin might have had some design issues, but at least the helmet and exo-skeleton design got around the problem of having to explain the villain's mythology properly - because frankly, it's all a bit silly. The design, which was so iconic on the pages of comic books, would never have translated well onto the big screen, not least because of the more realistic approach of the script.
But that didn't stop Raimi's team from experimenting, and thanks to the make-up tests below, which were ultimately rejected, we can see what a real Goblin-headed GG might have looked like. The effect is creepy, but sadly, it's also pretty comical.
Yes, the make-up is impressive, but any character arc involving an actual goblin head would have been catastrophically difficult to write into the script as it was, unless we're talking a Return To Oz-style head-switching set-up of course. Because you have to suspect someone at OsCorp would have noticed the difference in Harry's head after a while.
