11 Things You Learn Rewatching Octopussy

9. The Plot Is Confusing & Convoluted

Even mere minutes after watching Octopussy, it's not easy to piece the plot together and recount it to a stranger, because as written it's so damn contrived and incoherent.

Some head-scratching leaps in logic make an initial Fabergé egg plot lead to the true villain scheme, which typically involves the threat of nuclear annihilation, because the franchise hadn't recycled that idea enough already.

It's clearly an attempt to create a nuanced, twisty narrative, but it plays more as headache-inducingly sloppy. The best thing to do, honestly, is just to sit back and let it wash over you.

The plot holes and leaps in character logic are numerous - especially on the part of the villains - only deepening the feeling that this screenplay was in desperate need of a few re-drafts.
