11 Werewolf Movies That Broke All The Rules

If you're looking for a werewolf movie that utterly screams '90s cinema, you need to look no further than Wolf. The movie stars Jack Nicholson as the titular creature, though it explores the nature of the werewolf mythos in various ways that aren't typical in the genre.

In Wolf, Nicholson is a publisher who's just been fired when he gets bitten by an animal on the side of the road. This begins his transformation into a werewolf, but it's unlike the typical werewolf transformation found in the movies on this list. It takes time, and as it's happening, his inner animal is unleashed.

He becomes bolder and more confrontational as the animal inside begins to take control. The movie is less about the wolf inside than it is about the main character's latent rage. This makes the werewolf less of a monster and more of a symbol used to explore the fury that grows within the main character.

The movie manages to do this while remaining fresh and fun — it includes a hilarious scene where Nicholson 'marks his territory' all over James Spader's shoe. If you're looking for a werewolf movie that's unlike any other, you've found it in Wolf.
