12 Actors Who Have Basically Just Become Cartoon Characters
6. Johnny Depp
Like Helena Bonham Carter, Johnny Depp has in the last decade made an impression with several bizarre performances, and his other work has faded into the background. Since the first Pirates of the Caribbean film in 2003, Depp has starred as Willy Wonka (2005), the Mad Hatter (2010) and the vampire Barnabas Collins in Dark Shadows (2012), interspersed with the Pirates sequels. On top of his previous form as Edward Scissorhands, that's a lot of well-known characters to play with similarly quirky attributes, and Dark Shadows' lukewarm reception implies that it's getting repetitive. Depp's more conventional roles in The Tourist (2010) and The Rum Diary (2011) weren't well-received either, suggesting that we may be about to see a career U-turn, but until then Depp remains defined by his most lurid performances.
